EDU450 Introduction to School Counseling

Introduces the counseling profession with an emphasis on the counselor’s role in educational settings. Examines the responsibilities of the counselor from a historical, theoretical, and practical point of view. Explores the helping relationship, the roles of the school counselor, and the professional practice issues related to providing school counseling services in historical and contemporary settings. Focus is placed on the fundamental elements of basic listening and communication skills that serve as the building blocks for more advanced counseling skills.
